Woosh gets ready for New Zealand’s broadband future

New Zealand’s leading wireless broadband provider Woosh is preparing for the next evolution in the New Zealand broadband market, with key senior management announcements made today reflecting their plans to take advantage of emerging market opportunities.

Woosh Chief Executive Officer Kevin Wiley says, “We have been steadily readying ourselves for the imminent changes coming to the wireless broadband environment in New Zealand. We have made significant progress in our network and sales & service to offer New Zealanders a truly compelling choice for their telecommunications and broadband needs. Now is absolutely the right time to build on our strengths and plan for an exciting broadband future”

The changes at Woosh include the arrival of Kristin Dunne-Powell as the new Head of Sales & Marketing. Kristin brings to Woosh significant services marketing, sales and leadership experience, and a strong record of business growth. Previously General Manager Marketing at Vodafone, Dunne-Powell was a key contributor to Vodafone’s significant growth in the business markets since 2001.

With the regulatory environment continuing to evolve, acting Head of Marketing Nick Clarke is returning to his previous role of Commercial Manager Legal & Regulatory Affairs. Clarke will be focussed on the upcoming 2.3 GHz spectrum auction, the development of additional cell sites around New Zealand to expand Woosh’s broadband wireless coverage, and the extensive changes proposed in telecommunications regulation in New Zealand.

Other changes see the departure of Chief Financial Officer Gary Neill, who helped transition Woosh from its earlier capital-raising stage to its current operational focus and is now moving on to new career opportunities. “Gary has played a big part for Woosh over its formative years. We thank him for his important contribution and wish him well for his chosen future”, said Rod Inglis, Woosh Chairman. Financial Controller Marie Weaver will assume the operational financial responsibilities within Woosh.

Woosh is ending the financial year with record customer sales reflecting New Zealanders growing appreciation of Woosh’s competitive offerings. Woosh recently opened a new dedicated sales and retail office in Christchurch, will open a sales and retail office in Wellington in July, and are just completing finishing touches on a newly remodelled retail and service centre in Newmarket Auckland.

Wiley added, “With our increased investment in high quality people, network, and market presence, Woosh is committed to providing a fair and competitive broadband choice to New Zealanders. We look forward to announcing more initiatives and investments in the near future, and to getting on with bringing better broadband to all New Zealanders.”
