A Hire Power: website devoted to hiring anything

A Hire Power: New Zealands first website devoted to hiring and renting... anything

Hire Things.co.nz, New Zealands first website devoted entirely to products, items and services for hire or rental, is proving a major success.

Within weeks of going live www.hirethings.co.nz already has 350 registered users across the country, with numbers growing daily.

Hire Things, based in the Creative HQ business incubator service in Wellington, carries listings for anything from major operators such as boat charter companies to individuals renting out one or two items.

Managing Director Peter Torr Smith said the aim of Hire Things was to make it easier for people to hire a much wider variety of products, goods and services, than is accessible today.

Hire Things is an open market, he said. We already have major companies who hire goods or services out, such as boat charters in Taupo and Christchurch, party venues, a costume supplier, photographic equipment and a carpet cleaning service.

Then we have many one-off items which individuals own but dont need all the time, including a tractor in Waimate, a massage table in Wellington, a drum kit and supermum in Auckland and lots of lighting and DIY equipment.

We have a dog walker, proof reader, web designer, translator and two bands and even someone hiring out hugs. The possibilities are endless. We aim to release a vast array of resources within communities, which people can use without having to purchase.

It could be a bike, a tent, a kayak, a cement mixer or ride-on lawnmower. We recently had a couple going on honeymoon they wanted a Pacsafe luggage protector for their backpack. They hired one for $15 for a month through us and were absolutely delighted..

Recently we had someone book to hire disco lights for his local Museum fundraiser, he was so excited about the site he has listed his own band and some other items.

Peter said that the service also opened up new options for people considering buying expensive equipment for DIY, gardening or hobbies because they could help offset purchase costs by hiring them out.

Listing and booking onsite is free. Suppliers simply go to the website and list their item or service under one or more categories. They can upload pictures and each is given a Hire Things shop front.

Customers can find out instantly how much a service or item will cost for however long they need it and book online. The details are then passed to the supplier who will make arrangements directly with the customer. The site takes an average 2.5% success fee from the suppliers Hire Things account after the hiring has been completed.
