Mighty River Power
welcomes conclusion of police investigation
Mighty River Power chief executive Doug Heffernan has welcomed the conclusion of a police investigation into the death of Mrs Folole Muliaga on Tuesday 29 May.
The police today ruled out criminal proceedings saying there was no evidence to justify any charge in relation to Mercury Energy, Vircom or their staff members. The police have referred their investigation to the Auckland Coroner.
Mr Heffernan said that regardless of the outcome of the Coroner’s investigation, the tragedy of Mrs Muliaga’s death had raised important issues.
Mercury Energy is reviewing its internal processes to enable improvements to better protect customers with medical dependencies or in financial hardship from unnecessary or avoidable disconnection.
“Mercury Energy is committed to working with government regulatory and welfare agencies to develop improved procedures so we can identify and assist vulnerable customers more effectively,” he said.
