New software saves on post

Media Release For immediate release Tuesday 12 June 2007

New software saves on post

New Zealanders send around one billion pieces of mail each year to over 1.85 million delivery points nationwide; and for bulk mail senders this process is about to get cheaper and more efficient.

New Zealand’s leading data analysis company, Datamine, has today launched a free software product to help bulk mail senders determine whether their mailing database complies with imminent changes to New Zealand Post regulations.

From July next year, New Zealand Post will offer discounted bulk mailing prices to users who meet the requirements of their SendRight™ Address Accuracy Programme. The bulk mail discount provides up to 23% savings on the regular cost of mail. Businesses who mail more than 300 pieces at a time are eligible.

To qualify for the discount, bulk mail users must prove on a 12 monthly basis that over 85 per cent of the addresses they send mail to are correct to New Zealand Post standards by obtaining a Statement of Accuracy (SOA).

“The SOA will enable many business to take advantage of these significant postage discounts and reduce the cost of returned and undeliverable mail,” says Matt Lythe, Address and Data Marketing Manager of New Zealand Post. “In some cases, businesses can save tens of thousands of dollars a year in postal discounts alone just by keeping their databases up to date.”

To help organisations determine their compliance, Datamine has developed AddressWorks Powered by Datamine, a computer program that examines a business’ database or address list and provides the user with a SendRight™ SOA.

If the SOA requirements are not met, Datamine can help the business by providing data cleaning services to clean and correct their database. “Data cleaning is the most cost effective way for bulk mail users to obtain an SOA,” says Sally Carey, Director of Datamine. “The return on investment in data cleaning is vast given the size of the discounts offered by New Zealand Post.”

AddressWorks provides businesses with a SendRight™ SOA to quantify their postal compliance and ultimately help maintain their database for repeat bulk mailing discounts.

Businesses can download the software free of charge at: www.addressworks.co.nz.
