International Forestry Conference, Rotorua NZ 2008
Media Release
Focus On The Forest Engineering Revolution
Forest engineering experts from round the globe will gather in Rotorua next year to consider the major advances that have been made in the industry in the past five years.
"The forest engineering revolution" is the theme for the Focus on Forest Engineering Conference in June 2008.
It will update delegates on scientific and technological advances in felling, extraction and log transportation, setting the scene for businesses to improve their supply chain efficiency.
Speakers from Canada, United States, South Africa, Australia and Chile will join New Zealand experts at the Focus conference organised by Wellington-based forestry advisors, Forme Consulting Group.
"Focus will be the first conference of its type in more than six years," organiser John Schrider said.
"Since 2000, following the disestablishment of LIRO (New Zealand Logging Industry Research Organisation), this country's industry has seen little effort invested in accumulating and extending world and local knowledge on the science and practical application of forest engineering and wood supply systems.
"As New Zealand's harvest continues to expand, we will become more reliant on achieving access to existing and emerging global wood product markets. Cost-effective supply chain systems are core to competitive sustainability."
The three days of key note addresses, workshops, plenary sessions and a field day are intended to interest all levels of forestry businesses with a specific focus on people with roles in strategic management, operational delivery, advisory and specialist support skills. Suppliers will be invited to sponsor the conference and will be offered prime time opportunity to address the delegates.
