John Blakey to lead Competenz Industry Training

John Blakey will take over as CEO of Competenz Industry Training on August 15.

He has twenty years experience in vocational education and training. Key roles include:

* Programme Leader Human Capability for the Dairy Industry - developing a 10 year strategy to address skills and labour issues for that industry.

* Commissioner Tertiary Education Commission - he is now in his second term.

* CEO FITEC forestry industry training for 9 years - lead the development of the RADI Centre - New Zealand's Centre of Excellence in Wood Manufacturing Training and Education.

* Chair of the Industry Training Federation and member of its Executive - lead the Industry Training policy position around Tertiary Education Advisory Commission and the successor Tertiary Education Commission in the formative years.

* Head of School Auckland University of Technology, School of Communication Studies for 9 years - established the School, introduced degrees and post graduate qualifications, heavily involved in international education.
