GreenFleet going the Thrifty way

GreenFleet going the Thrifty way

The Sustainable Business Network is proud to announce that Thrifty Car Rental has joined Honda, LeasePlan and Toyota as sponsors of its GreenFleet programme.

GreenFleet assists businesses to address sustainability in transport through initiatives such as workplace travel planning, fleet procurement and tree planting for carbon offsets. GreenFleet is on target to offset over 1,000 tonnes of carbon dioxide in 2007 through tree planting.

“As the only New Zealand owned franchise of any international rental car brand, Thrifty is conscious of needing to protect and enhance our environment for future generations to enjoy. Vehicle emissions have a major effect on our air quality, so, we as a company have made a commitment to embrace sustainability and provide customers with vehicles that fit both their needs and the need to reduce the impact on the environment, says Nicki Sare, National Sales and Marketing Manager for Thrifty Car Rental.

“Supporting GreenFleet adds to and enhances our current programme. We intend to use our sponsorship to educate staff and customers about climate change, what they can do to help reduce their impact and offer customers opportunities to offset their vehicle emissions when they rent with us.”

Thrifty Car Rental operates a fleet of around 1500 vehicles with branches throughout New Zealand. With an extensive range of the latest model top quality cars, including fuel efficient, low emission vehicles, the Thrifty fleet is one of the best available in New Zealand.

“Consumers are actively seeking more sustainable ways to spend their dollar,” says Mark Roberts, GreenFleet Programme Manager.

“This includes the cars they choose when they rent, and we are pleased to partner with Thrifty because of their commitment to sustainability and their range of late model, low emission vehicles.”

GreenFleet is a programme to help businesses to reduce transport costs, develop more efficient travel behavior, support the local community, and help sustain our environment. It provides a three-step programme for business to adopt transport efficiency, alternative fuels and vehicles such as hybrids and offsetting co2 emissions.

Thrifty Car Rentals has been present in New Zealand since 1986 and operates at over 30 airport and city depots throughout the country. With an average vehicle age of just 6-9 months and Qualmark endorsed as a 'Superior' provider of visitor transport means you can travel with confidence when you rent with Thrifty.
