Free toll calls for Otago and Nelson regions

MEDIA RELEASE
Thursday 19 July 2007

Free toll calls for Otago and Nelson regions

TelstraClear has smashed toll boundaries for households, turning the entire Otago and Nelson phone books into a ‘Big Back Yard’ of free local phone calls.

The ‘Big Back Yard’ offer covers homes in the Dunedin, Alexandra, Balclutha, Cromwell, Lawrence, Milton, Palmerston, Queenstown, Ranfurly, Roxburgh and Wanaka calling areas in Dunedin, and Golden Bay, Moteuka, Nelson and Murchison in Nelson Bays.

TelstraClear Group Manager Product Marketing Peter Wise says nearly 76,000 Otago and 17,000 Nelson households can now say goodbye to toll bills when calling within the Otago or Nelson phone book areas.

“Otago residents for example can ring any landline number in their phone book area for free - call Wanaka to Roxburgh, Dunedin to Queenstown, or Cromwell to Milton, and don’t expect a toll bill from us,” says Mr Wise.

Mr Wise says he is sure both new regions with Big Back Yard will enjoy as much success as the first launch of Big Back Yard to the Auckland, Wellington and Christchurch regions.

“The response to our first launch only six months ago was superb. But what’s better, is being able to dispel all the myths that toll boundaries can’t be removed and delivering what people asked for,” he says.

Mr Wise says TelstraClear’s ‘Big Back Yard’ offer is available to residential customers in the areas covered by the Otago and Nelson and Bays White Pages™ 2007 phone books. All new and existing customers will need to sign up to TelstraClear’s Big Back Yard by calling 0508 010 229 or going online to www.bigbackyard.co.nz

As part of the Big Back Yard offer, customers will be committing to TelstraClear’s Residential InHome or HomePlan phoneline and calling offering for a minimum of 12 months.
