Māori Language Week To Honour Tourism Operators

Māori Language Week To Honour Tourism Operators

For the first time ever, this year’s Māori Language Week will feature a Tourism Award sponsored by Tourism New Zealand.

“We want to recognise and reward operators who make a commitment to Te Reo Māori and incorporate it in their tourism offer”, said Chief Executive Mr Hickton.

“Our indigenous culture is one of the key motivators for potential visitors to New Zealand, and this award aims to identify operators who not only understand how important Māori culture is to New Zealand tourism, but who actively promote it through Te Reo Māori.”

The theme of this year’s Awards is tourism, a choice which Māori Language Commissioner Erima Henare says was a natural fit.

“Tourism is a key industry which includes domestic and international travellers. We are excited to be working with Manaakitanga Aotearoa and inspired to see that they share our view that Māori Language week is an asset to business and has commercial value,” he says.

Tourism operators can enter the Awards by visiting www.koreromaori.co.nz and downloading the application form.

Entries open on July 29th, and close at 5pm on August 13th.
