CusMod 'scoping and design' tender awarded to five firms

Customs Group Manager Information Services Peter Rosewarne, today announced that Fronde, RHE, Topaz, Beacon and Red Vespa, have been selected as the resource panel tender providers for the first phase of scoping and design of Customs' new computer system.

In Budget 2007, the New Zealand Government committed $6.3 million in operating funding over the next four years for the modernisation of Customs' information services technology infrastructure, part of which will see the scoping and design of a new CusMod system.

The appointment of these five contractors completes Customs' Information Services Group for the first phase of planning. The contractors will now help finalise an architectual plan - with a number of workshops, costings and business cases to be presented before Government.

Peter Rosewarne says, “There was a strong industry response to this tender with Customs receiving 42 registrations of interest.

"This is an exciting project that will make a significant contribution to strengthening border management in New Zealand.

"Nine other government agencies already use CusMod. Over the coming months, we look forward to hearing from these agencies and industry stakeholders, so we can provide the strategic, operational and systems context for the CusMod replacement.

"The single type interface between border agencies and border users; and the appropriate sharing of information between relevant government agencies allows for greater connectivity so that agencies can effectively prepare their risk management response to the flow of people, trade and goods.

"The upgrade or replacement of the CusMod computer system, is subject to a number of work plans and capital development goals going forward," Mr Rosewarne says.
