Four businesses nominated for good community deeds

Westpac Manukau Business Excellence Awards Media Release
17 August 2007

Four businesses nominated for good community deeds

Winner to be revealed on Friday 24 August

From playing golf to wiping noses. For helping youth start their own businesses to the traditional charitable donation. Business charity in Manukau can take many forms.

Of the four organisations nominated for the Manukau Community Foundation’s Business Contribution to the Community Award at the Westpac Manukau Business Excellence Awards, only one will receive top honours.

But they all deserve recognition: out of the many nominations that were received, they were the four most generous with their time and resources, says Janis McArdle of the Manukau Community Foundation.

She describes the nominees as outstanding in their support of the Manukau community.

Allan, Diane and Andrew Wallace of Firmount Golf Park in Ormiston Road, East Tamaki, were collectively nominated for their significant financial support of international children’s charity, The First Tee. Since 2005 over 1,000 Manukau children have benefited from the positive values taught by the programme, which uses the sport of golf to teach life skills. Kimberly-Clark New Zealand were named for excellent corporate citizenship demonstrated through major donations to organisations including Plunket, the Salvation Army, New Zealand schools, kindergartens and playcentres, and to many other organisations in need of support.

For their support of the Counties Manukau Young Enterprise Scheme, amongst others, Tina Taylor of Digital Printing Solutions Limited in East Tamaki was named, as was Evan Wheeler, CEO of Rainbows End Theme Park. As well as supporting Young Enterprise, Rainbows End was singled out for the organisation’s support of local charities for giving opportunities to disadvantaged and seriously ill children to have fun at Rainbows End.
