Sofitel Queenstown Hotel & Spa manager wins hotel excellence awards

The manager of Queenstown’s premier five-star hotel, Sofitel Queenstown Hotel & Spa, netted top honours in a prestigious hotel excellence awards ceremony in Sydney on Friday night (August 17).

Sofitel Queenstown Hotel & Spa General Manager Mark Wilkinson was singled out in the Major Awards category as New Zealand Hotel Manager, beating stiff competition from managers of the country’s most prestigious establishments.

Sofitel Queenstown Hotel & Spa was established two years ago under Mr Wilkinson’s direction and has continued to flourish, gaining an enviable reputation and a loyal international clientele.

The win was announced at a gala dinner in the University of Sydney’s McLaurin Hall, attended by Mr Wilkinson and around 400 hospitality and accommodation professionals from New Zealand, Australia and the South Pacific.

Being named New Zealand Hotel Manager was a career highlight for Mr Wilkinson, who has 18 years’ hospitality experience.

“There can be no higher praise than that of your peers in the hospitality industry,” he said.

“I’m thrilled, but also highly appreciative of the dedicated, talented and hard-working team who supports me. Without them, winning an accolade like this would be incredibly difficult.”

The Sofitel Queenstown Hotel &Spa opened on 1 September 2005. It features 70 opulent and stylish deluxe rooms, ten executive suites, two penthouse suites, an international-branded day spa and two levels of restaurants and bars.
