More Positive Visitor Numbers for Lake Wanaka

More Positive Visitor Numbers Statistics for Lake Wanaka

LAKE WANAKA, New Zealand (August 20, 2007) - For the third month in a row, Lake Wanaka has gone against the national trend and shown significant increases in visitor arrivals and bed nights.

Following the recent announcement of figures for April and May, Lake Wanaka Tourism today announced the town received 10,670 domestic and international visitor arrivals in June, up 14% from 2006, and 20,456 bed nights, an increase of 12% on 2006.

For the year-to-date, arrivals are up 3.5% and bed nights 3%. This is against a national average of a 3% decline for bed nights and static arrival figures.

Lake Wanaka Tourism CEO, while delighted with the figures, urged caution in the accommodation sector. “These are excellent results but current and prospective accommodation providers need to be careful,” he said. “Available beds in Lake Wanaka have increased by a much greater rate than visitor arrivals or bed nights which means over a 12 month period, supply has exceeded demand.”
