Hapuku Lodge Launches Eco-Cultural Package
Hapuku Lodge – Planting a tree for every guest, and
launching an eco-cultural package
Hapuku Lodge is a proud part of Kaikoura's world-leading Green Globe initiative, and has recently introduced their own green initiative by planting a New Zealand native tree for every guest night spent at the lodge. Through tree planting, Hapuku Lodge will offset carbon produced by travel to Kaikoura's spectacular natural scenery and marine wildlife.
To mark the start of the tree-planting program, Hapuku Lodge's spring Eco-Package invites guests to stay in a Tree House, and experience some of the best nature based activities in Kaikoura. Guests will have the total CO2 emissions of their flights calculated and offset through the lodge's ongoing tree planting program.
Owner, Tony Wilson stated, "Adding to the environmental concern at the lodge, our tree planting program is a step toward lessening our guests' carbon-foot prints'." In an effort to contribute to making NZ tourism sustainable, Hapuku Lodge's goal is to reduce the CO2 and to help restore depleted local forests, encouraging regeneration of the native bird population, which includes rare and endangered species.
Hapuku Lodge's efforts also include: solar heating of the Lodge's water, recycling or composting the majority of Lodge's waste, high-spec insulation, efficient light bulbs, and the use of sustainable natural building materials wherever possible. The Lodge has already planted in excess of 10,000 native trees during their ongoing landscaping work.
Between the Pacific Coast and the Seaward Kaikoura ranges, just ten minutes north of the Kaikoura Township, a stay at Hapuku Lodge & Tree Houses positions guests to experience world renowned eco-tourism experiences.
From New Zealand's only tree house accommodation, guests have spectacular views of the nearby mountains and coast, and enjoy the Lodge's deer farm and olive grove. From the lodge there are numerous ways to experience Kaikoura's rich marine wildlife; from whales and dolphins to fur seals and sea birds.
Hapuku Lodge's Eco-Package includes:
* Two nights in one the Lodge's
luxury Tree Houses, in the
tree canopy of a native Manuka
grove.
* An interactive Maori Tour, including a bush
(forest) walk, and a unique opportunity, only available to
guests of Hapuku Lodge, to take
part in a Maori tree
planting ceremony, including the traditional blessing.
* A
Night Sky Tour to introduce the guests to New
Zealand's
spectacular night sky, which when viewed from
the high point of the
Kaikoura Peninsula is seen to have
80% more stars than the northern hemisphere skies.
* A Seal Kayaking trip along the rugged coast of the Kaikoura Peninsula, through popular seal habitats.
* Complimentary continental breakfasts and a sumptuous 3 course dinner for two, meals typically include local, sustainable seafood and organic produce.
* And the guilt free part: In addition to the single tree planting mentioned above, Hapuku Lodge will plant enough native trees to offset the CO2 produced by each guests' roundtrip flight to New Zealand - thereby making their trip carbon neutral.
