Entries open for 2008 Ballance Farm Environment Awards in Canterbury

Entries for the awards in the Canterbury region open on September 1, 2007 and close October 15, 2007.

The awards celebrate those people who are using best practice to farm in a manner that is economically, environmentally and socially sustainable. This is the sixth year the awards have been run in Canterbury. These awards are recognised as the national premier showcase for sustainable, profitable farming operations.

Canterbury judging co-ordinator, Joanne van Polanen, believes the benefits gained by entering the awards extends to farmers in all stages of their farming career. Farmers who enter the awards have the opportunity to discuss and demonstrate the sustainable practices relevant to their business with a team of three skilled judges. Entrants are also encouraged to seek ideas from judges on how they may develop and improve the sustainability of their business. The judging team provides a feedback report for every farm they visit.
