Memorandum Of Understanding Signed

ETITO And New Zealand Security Association Sign Memorandum Of Understanding

The New Zealand Security Association (NZSA) and the ETITO have signed a memorandum of understanding cementing their existing relationship and putting it on a more formal and positive footing.

Both organisations agree quality training in the security industry is more important today than ever before and believe the closer relationship will result in even higher standards than already exist.

NZSA board member Scott Carter says the industry has been working hard with government over the introduction of new legislation around accreditation of security officers, but says it is aware that this in itself is not ‘a silver bullet’.

“The industry knows it has a responsibility to step up itself and work to ensure all security officers are well equipped to do the job professionally and effectively,” Mr Carter says.

While he says some of the larger organisations belonging to NZSA already have good training programmes in place, the association is committed to ensuring all people in the industry are highly trained.

“That’s why the work of the ETITO and our relationship with it is so crucial,” Mr Carter says. “Personal, business and community security cannot be compromised.”

ETITO chief executive Marilyn Brady says having the backing, support and expertise of NZSA members contributes invaluably to the quality and professionalism of the people who qualify through the organisation.

“While we have worked together on training for the industry for over 10 years, the MOU points to a future where the industry training voice for the security industry is stronger, more focussed and more influential, in industry, training and government circles. And this will mean more traction for industry's ambitions for its people and their skill base.”

The MOU outlines how ETITO and NZSA will work together in the future to represent the security industry in New Zealand - ETITO as the security industry’s ITO and NZSA as ETITO’s industry association member.

In addition, the document records NZSA’s sponsorship of the Security Industry Training Advisory Board (SITAB) as NZSA’s and the security industry’s advisors to ETITO on industry training matters.

The MOU is available on the ETITO and NZSA websites: www.etito.co.nz www.security.org.nz .
