West Coast Brewery wins rights to Wild Foods Fest

Local West Coast Brewery wins Tussle with Asian Owned Montieths for rights to the Hokitika Wild Foods Festival

Whitebait, West Coast Land Mines and Hu Hu grubs rinsed down with a tipple of West Coast Draught in the Christchurch Square today was a sort of consummation between two West Coast icons.

Hokitika Wildfoods coordinator Mike Keenan said they were there as part of their lead up promotions for the forthcoming Wildfoods Festival on March the 8th next year and to announce their new sponsor The West Coast Brewery.

The West Coast Brewery won the bid from long time supporter Montieths who has been the sponsor for 12 of the festivals 19 year existence.

The West Coast Brewery is headed up by Paddy Sweeney and is taking a very proactive approach to the market place.

“The Wildfoods Festival and The West Coast Brewery are a perfect match.” Sweeney said and we intend to bring a new dimension by way of promotions into the already award winning event.”

We are actively involved in developing a whole range of initiatives that will literally take the West Coast to the world in more ways than one and our involvement with the Hokitika Wild Foods is the big one,” said Sweeney.

Sweeney is also a prolific writer having published six books and he says he has a ripper one being written about a bunch of larrikins that set up a brewery on the coast.

On a more serious note westcoast Brewing Limited has recently had its prospectus registered and is on a quest to raise two million in new capital for the company. “We are extremely excited about our association with the Hokitika Wild Foods Festival and being a fourth generation West Coaster I have an understanding of the West Coast that the big boys couldn’t even begin to emulate.”

“Next years event in Hokitika has a very special performer coming that Paddy has organised. Everyone on the planet knows of this guy, he will really get folk rocking” is all that Keenan would comment on the headline act.

“There will also be some new and exciting food, including these West Coast Land Mines which are sure to be a big hit,” Keenan said.

So Whitebait, West Coast Landmines, Hu Hu grubs and lots of new food and don’t forget the rocking is sure to see a spectacular Wildfoods event on March 8th 2008.
