High Profile Detective Moves into Security Industry

Neil Grimstone, the well-known and respected South Auckland detective, has today announced he has accepted a new position with a New Zealand security company.

Mr Grimstone, who retired from the police last month, has accepted the role of a branch manager with Matrix Security Group, a leading company in the industry with its head office in Auckland.

"From my research, they are true market leaders and highly regarded in the industry so going to a company like Matrix can only be a positive," Mr Grimstone said today.

Mr Grimstone said his decision was influenced by the fact the company is 100% New Zealand owned and also run by his former police colleague Scott Carter.

As a branch manager, he will be responsible for about 60 staff and he said he was looking forward to "finding his feet" in the new role, which starts in early October.

Matrix Security Group chief executive Scott Carter said he was pleased to have someone of Neil's calibre joining the company.

"Security professionals are now called upon to fulfil many of the roles that have previously been the sole domain of the police.

"Neil Grimstone is one of New Zealand's most experienced detectives, having been in the police for 28 years and having worked on some of the most high profile and difficult investigations," he said.

These include the recent investigation into the death of Chris Currie after a lump of concrete was thrown onto his car while he drove along the Southern motorway.

Mr Carter says the skills required to run a branch of a large security company are similar to those required to run a reasonable sized police station, especially in the areas of leadership and operational management.

"Given the close working relationship that Matrix Security already enjoys with the police, the staff are looking forward to Neil joining the team," he said.
