New Zealand’s 5th annual nationwide Pinot Noir tasting and winemaker dinners

The Fine Wine Delivery Company requested samples of same vintage (the exciting 2006 vintage this year) Pinot Noir from all NZ producers for evaluation and such is the importance of this consumer event few producers decline the opportunity to participate.

The experienced Fine Wine Delivery Company team subsequently tasted approximately 180 Pinot Noir submissions and handpicked just over 90 to showcase at the tasting events in Auckland – Wellington – Christchurch. The Pinot Noir range in retail from under $20 through to $75, all deliver a definitive Pinot Noir experience and offer value at their respective price points.

We’re pleased to announce 4 leading NZ Pinot Noir winemakers will join the tour representing their respective regions. It will be great to have the experience, expertise and passion of:

Greg Hay - Peregrine representing Central Otago
Duncan McTavish - Waipara Springs representing Canterbury
John Kavanagh - Neudorf representing Nelson/Marlborough
Helen Masters - Ata Rangi representing Martinborough/Wairarapa

For $45 consumers will get the opportunity to taste over 90 hand picked 2006 vintage Pinot Noir and will also be offered a tasting of numerous aged releases from outstanding wineries like Fromm, Carrick, Pegasus Bay Aria, Dog Point and others. They’ll be issued with a FREE Spiegelau Burgundy wineglass (included in the price of their ticket - value $30) to ensure they have a complete and professional Pinot Noir tasting experience.

The hugely popular ‘Consumers Choice Awards’ inaugurated three years ago encouraging consumers to taste broadly across the regions and nominate their 4 regional and overall champion Pinot Noir choices is happening again. Pinot lovers enjoy having their say and have been incredibly astute in choosing their regional/overall champions. Participating producers/winemakers have found these consumer led awards provide valuable feed back on Pinot lovers preferences and have been impressed with the annual champion selections.

Note Larry McKenna’s comments below on winning the Martinborough/Wairarapa Regional and the Overall Champion Pinot Noir Trophy double at the 2004 vintage Pinot Noir event.

Pinot Noir lovers will also be able to order their favourites from the outstanding selection of 2006 Pinot Noir at the tasting, secure them at NZ’s best across the board prices and have them delivered to their door.

In addition The Fine Wine Delivery Company will host a 4-course dinner after each tasting where leading NZ chefs will prepare 4 exotic courses matched to the 4 stunning 2006 Pinot Noir of the touring winemakers.

Around 1,000 genuine Pinot lovers will attend the tastings/dinners over the four nights, this annual event has become the most important and comprehensive Pinot Noir showcase for NZ producers.
