Canterbury Waste Services Wins Business Award
Canterbury Waste Services Wins Leading Business Award
Canterbury Waste Services, which operates the Kate Valley Landfill, has won another award - this time the Champion Canterbury service/retail section for medium/large enterprises.
"We are delighted to have won our category against some very worthy finalists," says Gareth James, CWS General Manager.
CWS is a public/private partnership between five local councils and CWS. It developed and operates Canterbury's regional landfill at Kate Valley (North Canterbury) which was opened in mid-2005.
CWS provides the expertise and resources to ensure the safe and efficient disposal of the residual waste stream produced by around 400,000 people in Canterbury. "Canterbury now has a landfill which operates to the highest international standards of safety and environmental protection," says Mr James.
"In addition to the excellence of design and engineering, the judges appear to have recognised CWS's expertise in developing the logistics of efficiently operating a large fleet of trucks in conjunction with the landfill activities."
CWS operates one of the most modern fleets of truck and trailer units in New Zealand to haul waste from transfer stations around Canterbury to the Kate Valley landfill. The vehicles incorporate a full range of safety features and the quality of the fleet is attracting a lot of interest in transport circles.
"CWS and its partners in Transwaste provide a vital part of Canterbury's infrastructure," says Mr James. "We are proud of what we have achieved since the decision around 10 years ago to build a world-class regional landfill.
"Its been a good twelve months for CWS. We have won the two premier New Zealand engineering excellence awards and now the major business award in Canterbury. This is a great testament to the quality of our staff, our consultants and our council and business partners," he says.
