More power for Outback and Legacy

Media Information October 1, 2007

More power for Outback and Legacy

Subaru’s All-Wheel Drive 2.5 litre Legacy and Outback ranges are refreshed with the addition of new engine technology, safety features and other equipment in the 2008 model year line-up.

Legacy and Outback 2.5 litre naturally aspirated engine power is up 5.0 per cent from 121 kWs to 127 kWs at 6000 rpm.

The 2.5 litre naturally aspirated engines also add Variable Valve Lift, ensuring optimum power and torque output, improved fuel consumption and lower exhaust emissions.

The addition of curtain airbags to Outback 2.5i and 3.0R means Legacy and Outback share this safety feature across both ranges.

Underlining Subaru’s safety commitment, Vehicle Dynamics Control is now standard on all SPORTSHIFT automatic naturally aspirated 2.5 litre variants of Legacy and Outback, in addition to Outback 3.0R and 3.0R Limited.

Both Outback and Legacy continue with the highest and safest five star ANCAP crash testing rating available.

“While there are no external changes to the 2008 model year Legacy and Outback, there are significant equipment, technical, safety and pricing stories throughout the range,” said Chris Rickards, the General Manager of Subaru of New Zealand.

“Our new 2.5 litre VVL engine has more power and better fuel consumption and Vehicle Dynamics Control (VDC) is standard on all automatic versions.

“Our already strong passive safety story is further enhanced with curtain airbags on every model.

“Extra equipment is added to almost all models and our Subaru value for money story is as strong as ever.

“The automatic Legacy 2.5i is still $43,990 and now has VDC and the new VVL engine included. That’s a huge bonus for us.”

“The Outback is just as strong a story. Our entry-level 2.5i manual now includes the VVL engine and curtain airbags, yet the price has remained at $43,990. Outback 2.5i automatic includes VDC, curtain airbags and the VVL engine, yet there is no change in the recommended retail price of $45,990.”

He concluded: “We are adding more value and variety to the Legacy and Outback ranges.

“Combined with our All-Wheel Drive ability, five star safety, retained value and reliability, these cars are a great whole-of-life proposition.

“The long list of standard features in these cars underlines Subaru’s commitment to premium positioning combined with fantastic value for money.”

Pricing of the three litre models has also been adjusted. The Outback 3.0R comes down $1000 to $56,990, while the Outback 3.0R Limited is now $59,990, a reduction of $3000.

The Legacy 3.0R B Spec. remains at $59,990.

“Buyers now have a clearer choice among our top models,” said Mr Rickards. “They can get the sporty Legacy GT, or the more comfortable riding Legacy 3.0R B Spec. with the smooth six cylinder motor or an Outback 3.0R Limited with more ground clearance all at the same price.”
