Win for Housing Trust

Win for Housing Trust

Nelson's low cost housing project has won the Housing New Zealand Community Development Award category of the Registered Master Builders House of the Year. The houses in Kawai Street are owned by the Nelson Tasman Housing Trust and were built for them by Tasman Holdings Nelson.

Housing Trust spokesperson Kindra Douglas says the trustees are delighted to have recognition for their high quality homes that they are renting at 80% of current market rates.

"Winning the award is vindication for our funders - Canterbury Community Trust and Housing New Zealand," she said. "Hopefully winning this award will inspire other developers to consider working with us to explore genuine alternatives to ease the housing crisis in our region".

The Master Builders House of the Year judges said Bryan Turner and Lyn Marshall of Tasman Holdings had provided value for money along with building excellence.

"The builder provided the overall development as a package and maximised the site as well as future proofing these buildings with low maintenance materials, solar water system, double glazing, insulation, and providing generous room sizes including the kitchen. The workmanship and the standard of linings and finishings exceeded our expectations. The builder's concern for their client is admirable." Ends More info Kindra Douglas Ph 546 8389
