New Zealand Hotel Council Announces New Chair

New Zealand Hotel Council Announces New Chair
Media Release

The New Zealand Council Inc (NZHC) has appointed Jennie Langley as its new Chair. Ms Langley was previously Chief Executive of NZHC and is an experienced Director, having served on a number of boards and committees throughout New Zealand.

“Jennie brings a wealth of experience and strategic knowledge to the Board which will ensure that NZHC continues to grow in profile and advance the wider interests of the New Zealand hotel sector,” NZHC CEO Mark Oldershaw said.

“We have always been fortunate to have extremely competent Boards but as members’ commitments increase and the range of NZHC activities broaden, they have been mindful of the value in having additional, independent leadership.”

Mr Oldershaw says that what is significant about this announcement is that it will be the first NZHC Chair appointed from outside the hotel sector.

“This will allow for more transparent advocacy as well as a greater focus on strategic developments and industry partnerships.”

Ms Langley says she is delighted to be back at the NZHC Board table and is looking forward to contributing to the ongoing success of the organization as well as the wider tourism industry.

“The release of the New Zealand Tourism Strategy 2015 is another milestone and also a timely reminder of the significant challenges we all face to ensure we are a truly world-class destination - as much for New Zealanders to be proud and enjoy as for our visitors.

“Tourism is an exciting, vibrant industry and it is essential that all sectors and operators whose livelihoods depend on it, work together to ensure its success is sustainable. NZHC is committed to playing its part and to showing leadership where this adds value.”

NZHC is indebted to Paul Richardson, Accor Hospitality, for holding the Chair role in an interim capacity until a permanent replacement was appointed.

NZHC is an industry organisation representing approximately 130 of the leading hotels throughout New Zealand. NZHC members currently have around $3 billion of capital invested in New Zealand producing around $1 billion of revenue per annum. Member hotels employ over 12,000 full-time staff members.
