General Manager Fairfax Sundays – Appointment
Michael Richards has been appointed General Manager for Fairfax Sunday Newspapers.
He will be responsible for the Sunday Star-Times, Sunday News and the Fairfax racing titles.
Michael has considerable experience in newspapers – daily, Sunday and community titles. In addition he has had exposure to custom publishing and founded his own advertising agency.
Michael is presently the CEO of Pacific Area Newspapers Publishers Association (PANPA) based in Sydney. Prior to that he was CEO of the Fiji Sun for three years, Group Publisher of Courier Newspapers, Sydney and Group Marketing Manager at Leader Newspapers in Melbourne.
Fairfax CEO Joan Withers welcomed the appointment. “Michael brings a wealth of publishing experience to this critical role at Fairfax. He has a strong track record in general management, in sales and marketing. He has also had significant experience of agencies which will be most useful to us.”
Michael takes up his role on January 14.
Current acting GM Andrew Boyle will return to his Waikato region role full time on 19 November and Jenny Stiles will be acting GM of the Sunday’s division for the weeks prior to Michael’s arrival.
