Jetstar has made inroads into the trans-Tasman leisure market
Jetstar has made inroads into the trans-Tasman leisure market, with 10% of New Zealanders flying Jetstar on their last holiday to Australia, according to the latest Roy Morgan Single Source data.
The success of Jetstar has halted the inroads which Air New Zealand made into this market in 2004 and 2005, when the percentage of New Zealanders using Air New Zealand for their last holiday rose from 40% in the year ended July 2004 to 47% in the year ended December 2005. Since the launch of Jetstar in December 2005 Air New Zealand has remained at 47%.
Jetstar's success has come at a good time for the Qantas group, as there has been a constant decline over the past three years in the number of New Zealanders using Qantas on their last Australian holiday (from a high of 35% in October 2004 to a low of 21% in July 07).
