IBEX Named Supreme Exporter for Export Year 07

New Zealand Trade and Enterprise have awarded specialist manufacturer and technology provider IBEX ‘Supreme Exporter of the Year’ and ‘Specialised Manufacturing Exporter of the Year’ at the New Zealand Export Awards in recognition of the company’s exponential export growth over the last three years and their strong strategic market development strategy.

The awards recognize and showcase the exceptional success of innovative companies strategically achieving high export growth and foreign market development. The awards were given even more significance with ‘Export Year 07’ a government led initiative aiming to raise export awareness and build export capability within New Zealand.

The Supreme Exporter title puts IBEX in the company of previous award winners and New Zealand success stories Navman NZ Ltd, ZESPRI International Ltd, and Rakon Ltd. IBEX’s outstanding international growth is shown in markets such as Brazil where IBEX have grown to supply 50% of their industry, dealing with all the major beef and poultry producers.

The awards cap off a phenomenal year of achievements for IBEX that have included the launch of two world first to market products, the first fully integrated product freezing sorting system and the low voltage high-speed trimming system. As well as the ‘Fastest Growing Manufacturer’ and ‘Fastest growing Exporter’ awards in the Deloitte/Unlimited Fast 50 and Manukau Business Excellence Awards.

“Winning the ‘Supreme Exporter of the Year’ award is a great achievement and recognition for IBEX, the calibre of finalists was very high and is a testament to the breadth and depth of innovation and creativity in the New Zealand market place.” says Jonathan Engle, Managing Director IBEX Technologies.

Breaking the mould and redefining what is possible through cutting edge technology underpins IBEX growth. Ray Connor General Manager IBEX Industries attributes the success to “A commitment to innovation, developing products that provide real end user benefits and developing strong international market channels.”

Four years ago IBEX decided to take control of their destiny, shifting their focus to export and restructuring into two entities -IBEX Technologies, providing freezing, chilling and sorting technologies for international food processing firms; and IBEX Industries, a manufacturer of innovative powered hand tool technologies for the global meat, fish and poultry processing industries.

Since then the company has grown rapidly expanding into 18 countries and projecting them into the forefront of their industries. “Growing so quickly has been both incredibly exciting and challenging, in both the hand tools and temperature change industries the strength of our success has come from understanding our customer’s needs and what we can offer them that is different from our competitors. Our point of difference is in the significant value we can add to our customers business.” comments Mr Engle.

“We can save our clients 40% of energy costs, 80% of labour costs, and provide full product tracking. That’s what makes us special and sets us apart from our competitors.” states Mr Engle.

2007 has seen IBEX Technologies launch their flagship product, the world’s first fully integrated temperature change and product sorting system. Patented technology developed in New Zealand that enables producers to freeze or chill product cost effectively while it is automatically tracked and sorted to any predetermined output. With several multimillion dollar orders in the pipeline IBEX are poised to turn the food manufacture process on its head.

This year also sees IBEX Industries release their high speed, low voltage Trimming System; a world first featuring blade speeds 3-4 times faster than existing technology. Designed specifically for bone trimming, the IBEX FF – Series offers a unique point of difference, enabling increased yields, efficiency and performance, and is available in both Pneumatic and Electric options.

With constant innovation one of the biggest challenges for IBEX is educating the food manufacturing industry as to what is actually possible and what savings can be achieved through new product technology and system design.

Mr Engle says that the biggest challenge IBEX now face is how to manage the continued growth. He believes the company has a winning formula and has recently restructured in order to manage the continued expansion.

IBEX will remain in New Zealand as a technology company, with sales being made right around the globe. “We are looking to be an export business worth hundreds of millions of dollars. The goal is to become the absolute global leader in our fields. Bar none.” says Mr Engle.
