NZer’s international liaison work helps develop global IT standard

Wellingtonian Craig Pattison has spent the last two years building a delegation of global IT experts whose work contributed to the development of a new IT governance standard.

Mr Pattison organised IT Service Management Forum (itSMF) governance experts from Korea, Russia and the USA to work with an International Standards Organisation group that put together an international IT governance standard.

The standard was finalised last month and is due to be published in 2008.

Mr Pattison is Chair and co-founder of Concrete Campus, a management consultancy that specialises in IT governance and service management.

His two years of work across International Standards were done on a pro bono basis.

“Developing standards has always been done largely by expert volunteers and it has been extremely satisfying work to see a group of some of the world’s’ leading thinkers in IT governance come together and create something new.

“It is vitally important that this type of volunteer work is carried out to ensure ongoing improvements in IT governance – a vital cog in any organisation.

“The governance standard will be a huge help – not only in business circles but in all sectors of the economy where governance is important.”

Mr Pattison was the foundation chairman of the NZ IT Service Management Forum, a not-for-profit organisation that works to get standardisation across the business IT sector. He is also vice-chairman and Director of Certifications and Qualifications of the IT Service Management Forum, International Board.
