NZ Communications Welcomes Investigation
Media Statement
14 December 2007
NZ Communications Welcomes Commerce Commission schedule 3 investigation into Co location of cell sites.
Bill Osborne Chairman of NZ Communications welcomed the outcome of the Investigation as being another small but important stepping stone to creating more mobile phone network competition in NZ.
“The Commerce Commission’s recommendation makes breaking into a market at 100% penetration a little less of a difficult challenge” commented Osborne.
“It will benefit new entrants by facilitating access to difficult coverage areas and where obtaining Resource Management Act approval would create lengthy delays. It is a sound environmental initiative by the Commission.

“There are still many hurdles ahead of NZ Communications being in a position to establish a modern, cost effective mobile service by the fourth quarter of 2008, but today’s announcement is an encouraging development.”
