Record Breaking Month for Hanmer Springs

Media Release for immediate use: Tuesday 12 February 2008

Record Breaking Month for Hanmer Springs Thermal Pools and Spa

Hanmer Springs Thermal Pools and Spa has kicked off the new year with a record-breaking month in January.

The new $3 million Spa, which officially opened in November last year, has significantly contributed to the increased turnover in January. Hanmer Springs Thermal Pools and Spa General Manager Graeme Abbot says he’s absolutely delighted with the news.

“We couldn’t have asked for a better result. The new Spa is two and a half times busier than the old one was last January. There’s no doubt the Spa has had a significant impact on turnover for the complex,” he says.

Graeme Abbot says it’s hard to wipe the smile off his face with a result like that.

“We turned over a million dollars in the month of January and so set a new record for the complex. It’s an extremely important milestone for us and one of which I’m very proud.”

A number of other factors also contributed to the excellent month, according to Graeme Abbot.

“We had brilliant weather over the holiday period which is when we seem to get our biggest visitor numbers. The landscaped picnic area at the front of the pool complex was very popular with family groups and the hyrdoslides were in high demand.”

Graeme Abbot says there is also strong international growth in visitors to the pools, especially Australians, and this is reflected in the record-breaking figures for January. But he says it’s not just trans-tasman tourists who are visiting the complex.

“There’s definitely consistent growth in the domestic market as well. Hanmer is only 90 minutes’ drive from Christchurch and is a very popular destination for people of all ages and from all walks of life.”

Graeme Abbot says he is hoping the record-breaking month of January is a sign of things to come.
