Another strong circulation audit

Unlimited marches on with another strong circulation audit

Despite a flat result across the magazine sector, Unlimited has emerged from the latest Audit Bureau of Circulations (ABC) survey with the best performance of titles in its category and yet another climb in sales figures.

The challenging economic climate has prompted many publications to endure marked declines in total circulation, however Unlimited's paid sales have increased 6.7% year on year. This is against the predominant trend of all business magazines audited. An analysis of Unlimited's direct competitors illustrates that Idealog dipped 2.4%, NZ Marketing Magazine dropped 19.7% and New Zealand Management fell 83% Only NZ Business emerged from the survey with a slight increase, comparable to Unlimited's at 2.3%.

Unlimited publisher Julie Gill attributes the strong survey performance for the year to December 31 — the second in a row for the magazine — to the compelling mix of editorial, layout and 'bound in' Unlimited Future supplements, which target export, science, sustainability and home entertainment.

"All the feedback we're receiving continues to suggest we're the most inspiring, innovative and preferred business tool for readers and that they are connecting with Unlimited's in-depth coverage of the annual Deloitte/Unlimited Fast50, the Unlimited/JRA Best Places to Work, as well as the $6 Million Investment Challenge," she says.

"We are consistently looking at new ways to excite and inspire our readers and whilst we're pleased with these latest ABC results we certainly won't be resting on our laurels or becoming complacent. We celebrated 100 issues late last year and that's no mean feat because publishing is a notoriously volatile industry. Our challenge will be to consistently deliver strong performances year in, year out, whilst retaining the innovative and insightful characteristics that have become our trademark," adds Ms Gill.
