Vero Centre supporting Earth Hour 2008

Vero Centre supporting Earth Hour 2008

New Zealand’s tallest office tower, the Vero Centre, will support Earth Hour this Saturday by switching off all unnecessary lighting from 8pm.

Earth Hour was launched in Sydney last year by WWF Australia and the Sydney Morning Herald and has now expanded to include more than 20 major cities around the world. It calls on individuals and businesses to turn off lights and appliances for an hour. The aim is to demonstrate how small actions can make a big difference to greenhouse gas emissions and help address global warming.

Auckland’s skyline will change significantly for the hour between 8pm and 9pm this Saturday when the Vero Centre management company, Kiwi Income Property Trust, will switch off the distinctive halo lighting and neon ‘Vero’ sign on top of the office tower. Base building lights and common area lighting will also be turned off.

Vero Centre management is recommending all building tenants take part in Earth Hour. Limited essential lighting will remain on in the lobby area, for tenant safety.

Vero New Zealand is proud to participate in Earth Hour and is encouraging all employees to support the initiative in their own homes by switching off lights and appliances tomorrow evening.
