Registered Master Builders set to “keep it real” in Wellington at 2008 annual conference

Politics will be on the agenda later this month when more than 300 people attend this year’s annual Registered Master Builders Federation (RMBF) conference in Wellington.

Registered Master Builders from around New Zealand, including key industry leaders, decision makers and industry stalwarts, will gather in the capital on April 24-26 to discuss recent trends, business strategies, and policy developments in the building and construction industry.

With issues such as housing affordability, builder licensing and reducing compliance costs high on the political agenda heading into this year’s election, the theme for the 2008 conference is Keeping It Real – reflecting RMBF’s desire to keep politicians focused on implementing positive policy reform in the industry.

The Minister for Building and Construction, Hon Shane Jones, will open the conference on Thursday, April 24, followed by an address from National Party leader John Key, and Chen and Palmer’s Mai Chen, who will provide a political commentary on issues facing the building and construction industry.

Other key speakers include sales and marketing guru John Lees, who will talk to members about developing their businesses, Licensing Board chairman Alan Bickers, Nigel Bickle and David Kelly from the Department of Building, BRANZ’s Lynda Amitrano, and Philip Alviano of the Master Builders Association of Victoria, who will speak on Green Builder Training, as implemented in Victoria.

The conference will also feature international guest speaker Paul Montelongo, who will speak on “Exceptional Marketing for Builders,” along with actress Robyn Malcolm, and broadcaster Peter Montgomery.
