Kiwi sub sure to surprise boaties at this week’s boat show
What is
believed to be the first battery-powered submarine designed
and built in New Zealand is set to “wow” Kiwi boaties
when it is displayed at this week’s Hutchwilco New Zealand
Boat Show.
The submarine, called Drydive, was developed by Wellingtonian, Brent Shaw and is being brought to the City of Sails especially for the boat show, which opens this Thursday and runs through to Sunday.
The 3.6m Drydive can carry three passengers, including the driver, to a depth of 35 metres.
Shaw is not only displaying the submarine to boat show visitors, he is also offering one of them the chance to win a ride of two in the submarine at Lake Taupo.
Drydive is only one of the innovative new displays this year’s boat show. Others include a new modular pontoon system for creating houseboats, jetties, mai-mais and pontoon boats; a Kiwi “world first”: the world’s first completely fibreglass pontoon boat and a new and improved version of the “Shewee”.
