Turbo and Diesel Added to Mondeo Range

News

IMMEDIATE RELEASE

High Performance XR5 Turbo and Fuel Efficient Diesel Added to Comprehensive Mondeo Range
AUCKLAND, New Zealand, 14th May 2008

Two new key players have been added to the Ford Mondeo range today – the fuel efficient Mondeo Diesel and the range topping Mondeo XR5 Turbo.

Boosting the Mondeo range to a total of 10 variants, both the Diesel and XR5 bring something unique to the model line up and offer Mondeo customers even more choice within the range.

The Mondeo diesel is matched to a 6-speed automatic gearbox and provides exceptional fuel efficiency as well as the inherent performance benefits of diesel power. As the cost of fuel continues to rise in New Zealand, this is becoming increasingly important.

"Diesel purchases in the medium car segment have steadily increased over the last couple of years, now making up 10% of the segment. Our offering of a diesel Mondeo with a 6-speed automatic transmission aims to answer the demand by New Zealanders for automatic diesels," says Mike Gibbon, Brand Manager Passenger Vehicles at Ford New Zealand.

"The addition of diesel vehicles to the Mondeo range is another example of Ford's commitment to lowering CO2 emissions and providing alternative fuel solutions. Diesel vehicles are a viable and real way we can start making a difference now", says Gibbon.

The Mondeo diesel will be available in both sedan and wagon styles as well as the Zetec hatch.

The high performance XR5 Turbo is the hero product of the Mondeo range. It's 2.5 litre turbo 5-cyclinder petrol engine and 6-speed manual gearbox form the perfect partnership, delivering a sporty dynamic that showcase Mondeo's acclaimed drivability and increases its power.

"The Mondeo's superb driving dynamic coupled with the 2.5 litre turbo 5-cyclinder engine and an array of standard features makes this car stand out," says Gibbon.

The Mondeo XR5 Turbo hatch standard features include '3D metal finish' instrument panel, distinctive alloy wheels, blue tinted glass, bright chrome or brushed silver exterior finishing touches, power heated door mirrors with puddle lights, front LED ambient interior lighting and footwell illuminations.

Ford New Zealand's new transparent pricing structure that was first used in November on the new Mondeo has also been applied to the Mondeo Diesel and XR5 Turbo. The 2.0L Mondeo Turbo diesel starts at $40, 990 with the wagon priced at $42,490 and the diesel Zetec hatch at $43,990. The XR5 Turbo is a whole lot of fun for just $48,990.

"Having sold more vehicles than any of its competitors in the medium car segment since its introduction in November, the Mondeo is already performing well. With the addition of Mondeo diesel and XR5 Turbo models, we are strengthening our offering and giving consumers more choice.

"There are now four different engines that make up the range, manuals, automatics, petrols and diesels, sedans, hatches or wagons. This is a comprehensive range that uses an eye-catching sophisticated design to deliver exemplary driving dynamics", says Gibbon.
