Chip Group Launches Online Training For Shops

The Chip Group has unveiled a series of online training modules called Chip Group Online Training - to help chip shop owners and their staff ‘get to grips’ with the Group’s recently launched industry Standards.

Chairperson of The Chip Group, Glenda Gourley, said the new internet modules provide training across all areas of ‘The New Zealand Standards for Deep Fried Chips in Independent Fast Food Outlets’.

“There are eight training modules covering chip size, portion size, oil temperature, cooking/deep-frying, drainage, oil maintenance, filtering and cleaning, and salt,” she said.

“Each module comprises an introduction, a training video, recap of what’s been covered and a multi-choice quiz based on the training video.

“Chip shop staff can choose to complete the training modules all in one go or at their leisure – it’s up to them.”

Staff that score full marks when completing each training module will, for a limited time, be eligible to receive a wide range of shop-related incentives.  They will also receive a certificate confirming completion of training for placement in their shops.

“It’s a win-win situation for all involved,” Glenda said.

“Chip Shop operators will be able to enhance customer satisfaction, improve their knowledge base and achieve greater business efficiencies.”

Heart Foundation Nutritionist, Judith Morley-John, said the launch of the internet modules puts meaning behind the Standards and makes the Chip Group’s goal of making takeaway chips healthier even more achievable.

“With the advances in modern technology it makes sense to use the internet as an education medium to reach chip shop owners.

“The Standards are the direction we want the whole industry to move towards.  Some operators are in a better position than others to adopt them, however, we want to encourage and support all operators as they move towards total implementation.  The new training modules will go a long way towards achieving that goal.”

The internet training modules are available in both English and Cantonese.

To complete the modules, chip shop owners can register at www.thechipgroup.co.nz
