Novotel ‘going dotty’ for local artist

Queenstown-based artist Stacey Farrell is putting on a visual feast at her mixed media exhibition ‘going dotty…’ which launches in Queenstown this week.

The lighthearted exhibition, which runs from 20 June to 18 July at the Novotel Queenstown Lakeside Gallery Bar, showcases abstract 3-D works of art featuring a range of unusual media on, or protruding from, canvases.

Ms Farrell, a talented architect, artist and furniture designer, combined her discerning eye and highly visual style to create a 12-piece collection using feathers, rubber tubes, balls and shiny, glittering treasures.

Inspired by texture, light and the natural environment, Ms Farrell is excited to be showing her new artworks and hopes people will smile when they see them.

“With titles like ‘Electric Boogaloo’, ‘Squiggle Pop’ and ‘Spaghetti Head’ you get the picture that my work is happy and lighthearted!” she says.

“I look for the beauty in everything and my enjoyment of it becomes my inspiration in all my creative pursuits.”

Ms Farrell’s artistic philosophy has driven her development of an extensive portfolio which includes furniture, painting, three dimensional canvases, sculpture, photography, interior design and architecture.

She has been exhibiting and selling her work throughout New Zealand since 1998 and has completed a number of creative pieces commissioned by clients in Europe, America, Australia and Japan.

Her popular range of outdoor lounge suites, manufactured using boat building technology, are ideally suited to harsh New Zealand conditions.

Novotel Queenstown Lakeside General Manager Jim Moore says the hotel is delighted to be showcasing Ms Farrell’s works.

“We’re keen to support New Zealand artists and provide opportunities to strengthen Queenstown’s arts community. Our Gallery Bar and Café space is a great forum for artists to convene, display and sell their works to hotel guests, visitors and locals.

“This is Stacey’s first exhibition in Queenstown so we’d love to see a big crowd here on Friday night to support the official opening.”
