Rumour has it the waiting list for the world’s best restaurant, elBulli, is 100 years, but the New Zealand Hospitality industry is set to jump the queue with one of elBulli’s top Research and Development Chefs, Alain Devahive, confirming his attendance at the HospitalityNZ show in August.

ElBulli is the legendary Spanish restaurant that has arguably the most extraordinary food in the world and has been judged best in the world for the last three years by UK magazine, Restaurant*. The establishment has a limited season from April to September and it accommodates only 8,000 diners a season, with 800,000 people calling to try and book places. While the restaurant is closed from October to March, the army of over forty chefs and scientists work on inventions for the coming season.

Alain Devahive, who is world renowned for his seminars on elBulli’s ‘spherification’, ‘gellification’ and ‘emulsification’, will be attending HospitalityNZ to demonstrate the molecular gastronomy techniques championed by elBulli.

Michele Harrod, the manager of HospitalityNZ said: “We are truly honoured to have Alain join us for this year’s show. His presence at the show offers a unique opportunity for the New Zealand hospitality industry to see this calibre of expertise in person and witness the amazing application of science to food creation – it really is a once in a lifetime opportunity”.

“ HospitalityNZ has five great shows under the one roof including the Hospitality Show, Wine New Zealand, Coffee & Beverage, Telecom Seminars and the NZ Culinary Fare. We are also playing host to four major competitions: The prestigious Restaurant of the Year, Torque D’Or, the Global Chef’s Challenge and the Da Vinci Trans Tasman Barista Competitions - it’s heaven on earth for anyone remotely involved with hospitality and Alain’s attendance is the icing on the cake!” Michele added.

HospitalityNZ will be held from the 31st August until the 2nd September at the ASB showgrounds. To find out about session times, ticket bookings and to register for HospitalityNZ go to www.hospitalitynz.co.nz.
