Media Release
Wednesday 16 July

Auckland BarShow Speakers, Seminars, Parties & Comps confirmed!

With Auckland BarShow kicking off in just a matter of weeks, the time has come to announce the dynamic line-up of both local and international speakers presenting a showcase of cutting edge seminars.

Auckland BarShow is New Zealand’s leading standalone tradeshow dedicated to the bar market and is again expected to attract more than 2,500 visitors, with an incredible line-up of exhibitors, a jam-packed schedule of seminars, the Bartender Magazine Bartender of the Year Competition, the Bartender Magazine Flair Championship and of course, the post-show networking events including the New Zealand bar awards.

All Auckland BarShow seminars will take place on Tuesday 5 and Wednesday 6 August at Alinghi Base overlooking the stunning Viaduct Harbour (pdf of complete timetable attached). This year there are three specialty theatres all dedicated to bar industry education, including; ‘BAR MIXOLOGY’, ‘BAR TALKS’ and the all new ‘CIGAR THEATRE’.

BAR MIXOLOGY THEATRE
Need to brush up on your bartending skills? Or keen to learn more about the latest bartending trends and techniques? Then the Bar Mixology Theatre is the place for you. This year’s sessions will be led by a cross-section of the world’s leading bartenders, including internationally renowned flair gurus Leeroy Petersen and Karai Wall presenting a cutting-edge flair show. They will be joined by NZ Bartender magazine Deputy Editor and 2006 NZ Bartender of the Year, Simon McGoram and everyone’s favourite Wellington bartender, Matterhorn’s Riki Carter presenting a double-billing on Classic Mixology. Ben Davidson, International Brand Ambassador for Pernod Ricard will also be presenting seminars on the Pernod Ricard Stand and NZ Bartender magazine Mixology stage.

The Bar Mixology Theatre will also feature two hotly contested bartending competitions - the NZ Bartender Magazine Flair Championship and of course, the third annual NZ Bartender Magazine Bartender of the Year Competition. The Flair Championship will pit bottle-spinners against one another to find out who is New Zealand’s king or queen of flair. The winner’s prize will consist of a return ticket to Sydney BarShow 08 in September to be a wild card entry for the Australian Flair Championship, with the chance of competing on a world stage at Monte Carlo.

The Bartender Magazine Bartender of the Year Competition meanwhile is once again one of the most highly anticipated fixtures of the Auckland BarShow line-up. 10 of New Zealand’s finest bartenders will compete on the NZ Bartender magazine Bar Mixology Stage on Day Two of the show at 11am for the honour of being named Bartender of the Year at the New Zealand bar awards.

BAR TALKS THEATRE
This year, NZ Bartender magazine is bringing you an epic line-up of New Zealand’s leading hospitality personalities and suppliers to add the all important educational element of Auckland BarShow. This year we have extended the Bar Talks, theatre which is brimming with New Zealand’s best bar talent covering topics like: ‘PR and Marketing’ hosted by New Zealand Bartender magazine Editor, Amy Spanton; ‘How to go from Employee to Employer’ featuring experienced bartenders-turned-owners such as Del Herewini (Eden Cloak Room, Auckland) and Dickie Cullimore (Double Happy, Christchurch); and ‘NZ versus the World: How our Bars Rate’ led by a well travelled panel including David Hawk (Suite & Crow, Auckland), Christian McCabe (Matterhorn & Mighty Mighty, Wellington) and David Spanton (Publisher, NZ Bartender magazine).

CIGAR THEATRE - NEW
The Cigar Theatre is an exciting new initiative taking place at Auckland BarShow 08. This theatre will offer trade visitors the opportunity to learn more about premium hand rolled Cuban cigars and how they can add value to your bar and help increase your premium beverage sales. Some of New Zealand’s leading authorities on Cuban cigars will be hosting seminars in this VIP theatre over the two days. Seats are limited.

AUCKLAND BARSHOW CRAFT BEER & WINE GARDEN - NEW
New for ’08 is the dedicated boutique wine and beer element of the show, Auckland BarShow Craft Beer & Wine Garden, an area which will bring on-premise focused independent wineries and breweries face to face with bartenders and bar owners.

NEW ZEALAND BAR AWARDS
The New Zealand bar awards presented by New Zealand Bartender magazine will once again celebrate the cream of New Zealand’s ever growing bar, pub and nightclub scene. Over 250 leading bar professionals are once again expected to attend the industry gala dinner to celebrate 15 awards to be handed out to the country's finest. The night will kick off with pre-dinner drinks followed by a three course gala dinner at the Auckland Hilton and then on to the official after party at Crow Bar.
