Chairman focuses on liquor legislation overhaul

Media Release 12 August 2008

New Chairman focuses on liquor legislation overhaul

A major overhaul of liquor legislation by the Law Commission will be the focus of work for Philip Robinson, the recently elected chairman of Distillers Association of New Zealand.

“We understand this will be a thorough review which may have significant implications for the wider drinks industry. In due course we will be looking to make contributions and our perspectives known to Sir Geoffrey Palmer’s review,” Mr Robinson says.

“The review and other regulatory changes make this a particularly challenging time to be taking on this role.”

Mr Robinson is General Manager of drinks importer and distributor Maxxium New Zealand Limited, a position he has held for two years. He has 15 years in the liquor industry, holding executive positions with Maxxium in Australia and Lion Nathan.

Mr Robinson was elected to succeed Allen McComick who has stood down after seven years as chairman. Mr McCormick will continue his involvement with the association as vice-chairman.
