Outrageous Fortune Writer Heads Up Awards Winners List

Outrageous Fortune writer and producer Rachel Lang headed up a stellar cast of winners at the fifth annual Women in Film and Television Awards held on Monday night at SKYCITY Theatre in front of an industry audience of 500.

Lang received the TVWorks Success in Television Award for her achievements in the last twelve months which have seen the Outrageous Fortune format sold in the United States and the United Kingdom, a New Zealand first for a drama series.

Other Awards winners included: exciting up-and-comer Roseanne Liang; documentary filmmaker Annie Goldson for her film An Island Calling; businesswoman and Voice Q dubbing software creator Rhonda Kite; co-producer Carmen Leonard; and long-term industry leader producer Robin Laing.

A special achievement award was also presented to Pietra Brettkelly for her international film The Art Star and the Sudanese Twins.

In a great night for South Pacific Pictures, who have working relationships with Liang, Leonard and Lang, the production company also took out the award for industry commitment to sustainability practices.

WIFT Auckland Executive Director Anne O’Brien said the Awards night had been extremely well received by attendees from across the industry.

“I’ve been overwhelmed by the success of this event. From the extraordinary achievements of the winners to the festive atmosphere of the party and the glowing feedback from sponsors and audience alike, WIFT is really proud of its signature event. which continues to showcase the work of women in the screen industry,” she said.

The gala evening was MC-ed by Jennifer Ward-Lealand, with entertainment provided by comedienne Justine Smith, ukulele players Amanda Billing, Gemma Gracewood and Megan Hosking, and a succession of iconic film and television clips from the last 60 years.

The WIFT New Zealand Awards are presented with the generous support of principal sponsor Eyeworks New Zealand and Awards sponsors South Pacific Pictures, Television New Zealand, TVWorks, Great Southern Film & Television and MiNDFOOD.
