Spectacle promised for gala dinner occasion

Westpac Manukau Business Excellence Awards Media Release

29 August 2008 – for immediate release

Spectacle promised for gala dinner occasion

When you arrive at a business event you don’t expect to be greeted by swirling red-hot Chinese lion dancers. Nor do you anticipate seeing circus performers swirling above your head while waiting for the main course. Or for a ‘slow jam’ college band to provide the dinner music while you dine.

But at a Gala Dinner held to celebrate the 2008 Westpac Manukau Business Excellence Awards this Friday 5 September, that is exactly what you will get. The evening, often described as the ‘Oscars’ of Manukau business, is designed to entertain as well as to inspire.

School talent features highly in the programme: Evander Folau and the Papatoetoe High School Choir will perform the New Zealand National Anthem, and the Humble Souls from Lynfield College, a teen group which received accolades for its ‘performance at the Halberg Awards, will entertain the crowd of more than 800 business leaders, local personalities and dignitaries when they hit the dance floor in the later stages of the evening.

The Larry Morris Band will also have a starring role – fitting because in Larry’s career he has performed alongside big names like The Who, David Bowie, and Tom Jones, and the aerial tissue dancers from the New Zealand Circus promise to delight.

The Westpac Manukau Business Excellence Awards recognize Manukau’s top businesses. 28 finalists have already been named in 13 categories, and each category winner, plus the two supreme awards, the Westpac Manukau Business of the Year, and the Marley New Zealand Small Business of the Year, will also be announced at the dinner.

The event will be held on the evening of Friday 5 September, at the TelstraClear Pacific Events Centre in Manukau. Tickets are available by contacting Enterprising Manukau on 09 262 2244 or visiting www.bizawards.co.nz.
