Decanter name Spy Valley best value NZ pinot noir

Award winning Marlborough wine label Spy Valley has been named the international Decanter Magazine’s best value New Zealand Pinot Noir at the annual New Zealand Pinot Noir tasting.

Spy Valley’s 2007 Sauvignon Blanc was also awarded Trophy in Decanter’s World Wine Awards for best New Zealand Sauvignon under 10 pounds (sterling).

Spy Valley’s general manager Blair Gibbs said today the under 10 pound a bottle was a very competitive category with 9219 wines in the competition in all categories and again showed fantastic value.

The Decanter World Wine Awards – one of the most influential wine competitions in the world - attracted more entries this year than ever before – more than double the amount when the awards began five years ago

Gibbs said the Decanter result was great for showcasing premium NZ and Marlborough wines in all global markets.

``This is a landmark achievement for our label to be judged by Decanter as the best value for money Pinot Noir in New Zealand.’’

Spy Valley produces more than 150,000 cases of wine a year in its state of the art winery and is one of New Zealand’s leading family-owned wine companies. The winery takes its brand name from a US communications monitoring base nearby in Marlborough’s Waihopai Valley.
