Brown Brothers in the pink: New Moscato Rosa debuts at Auckland Home Show

New chilled red Cienna also on offer

The staff at Brown Brothers were so excited when they tasted the first vintage of Moscato Rosa that they’ve rushed a shipment across the Tasman to give visitors to the Auckland Home Show a taste of the brand new wine, weeks before it hits retail shelves in this country.

The family-owned wine company released Moscato Rosa in Australia just last month to meet the growing demand for lighter, fruitier low alcohol wines.

Brown Brothers CEO, Ross Brown, says they developed the wine after witnessing the huge popularity of similar wines in their range such as Moscato, Zibibbo and Zibibbo Rosa which was launched in New Zealand in February this year.

“Visitors to our cellar door at the winery at Milawa regularly ask us for wines that are light and fruit-driven and they love this new addition. Moscato Rosa should be enjoyed while young and vibrant and is so delicate and fresh, it is a fantastic drink to have on any social occasion,” says Ross.

Moscato Rosa is made from the Muscat of Alexandria grape with a small percentage of Cienna, a red grape exclusive to Brown Brothers, which provides the delicate rose blush. Best served well chilled Moscato Rosa has a mild frizzante effect on the tongue and only 7 percent alcohol.

Visitors to Brown Brothers stand 1257 can also sample another wine new to New Zealand – a unique chilled red made from the Cienna grape. With its deep beetroot red colour, sweet cherry and fresh berry fruit flavours, Cienna is as dramatic on the eye as it is on the palate.

Ross says the first vintage of Cienna sold out at the company’s cellar door in a matter of weeks.

“We took that as a sign there is a demand for this style of wine. Cienna fits in our range between two very successful wines New Zealanders are already familiar with, Moscato and the chilled red Dolcetto & Syrah.

“Cienna has more fruitiness and less tannin than Dolcetto & Syrah, and is lower in alcohol, matching Moscato at around 5 percent,” says Ross.

As well as Moscato Rosa and Cienna Brown Brothers will be offering Auckland Home Show visitors tastings of Vermentino, Tempranillo, Zibibbo and Shiraz from their extensive range.
