Jade Software Schedules Trains in Toronto

JADE SOFTWARE CORPORATION NEWS RELEASE

15 September 2008

Jade Software Systems Schedule Passenger Trains in Toronto

Jade Software Corporation (Jade) announced that the IT system it developed for passenger trains in Toronto, Canada, went live on 1 June 2008.

Jade was commissioned by multinational train manufacturer and rail logistics services giant, Bombardier Transportation, to develop, deploy and support the software that would allow train controllers to schedule, monitor and crew the passenger trains that move 170,000 passengers a day on seven lines in and out of Toronto.

This system builds on applications developed by Jade for UK train operator, English, Welsh and Scottish Railway (EWS).

Jade’s Managing Director Dr. Rod Carr said, “The project reflects the truly global nature of the IT services business today. Bombardier found us via our website. They engaged with our US Vice President based in Atlanta to commission software to be built in Christchurch and deployed in Toronto. The IP is owned by a UK company, EWS; the prime contractor, Bombardier Transportation, is headquartered in Berlin; and the end user is Go Transit, the Toronto passenger transport operator.

“Not only was this another example of a complex data model and complex rules lending itself to the use of the JADE development tools, but the agility with which our team was able to gather requirements, design the system, develop, test and deploy the solution within a period of just over six months was very impressive.

“The same software is being evaluated for use in two other countries at present. Thales is priming an opportunity in Australia at present. While all these prospects have a common core set of requirements, each has some unique requirements. What they want is a cost effective solution that works, they are beyond brand buying and into solutions.

“The Bombardier GO Transit contract has been delivered on time and within budget, has met the expectations of both Bombardier and GO Transit, and in one way or another has involved over 40 of our 350 staff during a six month period. All up it was around 1,400 days effort,” Dr Carr said.
