2009 Waikato Ballance Farm Environment Awards
Entries for the 2009 Waikato Ballance Farm Environment Awards opened on 1 October.
Held in eight regions throughout the country, the awards celebrate people who are farming in a manner that is economically, environmentally and socially sustainable.
Waikato BFEA regional coordinator Phillipa Crequer says feedback from entrants in last year’s competition suggests they found the judging process to be a highly rewarding and enjoyable experience. “They come out much better informed on how to apply sustainability principles to their farming operations to minimise impacts on the environment.”
Supreme winners from each region will be honoured at a Sustainability Showcase event next year. They will also be entitled to apply for the New Zealand Farm Environment Award Trust and MAF Study Scholarship.
A new initiative launched this year means farmers or horticulturists can be nominated to enter the awards by other farmers or agribusiness people.
For more information, or for an entry form for the Waikato Ballance Farm Environment Awards, contact Phillipa Crequer, phone (07) 8555179 or email Waikato@bfea.org.nz.
An entry form can also be obtained from www.bfea.org.nz or Environment Waikato.
Entries close on November 14, 2008.
