Organic Millstone Sauvignon Blanc

MEDIA RELEASE

October 2008

Allan Scott’s Organic Millstone Sauvignon Blanc Adds Another Branch To The Family Tree

Leading winemaker Allan Scott raises a glass to celebrate the first organic-conversion wine from the Scott family’s Millstone Vineyard in Marlborough.

Steered by the initiative of winemaker and viticulturist Sara Scott, the youngest daughter of Allan Scott, the 2008 Millstone Sauvignon Blanc is certified BioGrow and is in the process of conversion to organic certification.

The wine is dry in style with an aromatic mix of limes, passionfruit and melons. It has mineral characters with a lingering textured finish and served lightly chilled, provides an ideal accompaniment to seafood and white meat dishes.

In setting out to create the new organic wine, Sara was keen to work harmoniously with the ingredients and surroundings that relate to her craft. While all the Scott’s vineyards are managed sustainably, it was Sara’s wish to transform the entire Millstone Vineyard into a complete organic culture.

Sara used compost teas, seaweed and other oils in place of chemicals in the vineyard as well as organic ingredients to ensure the wine is as clean and green as she could make it.

“The vineyard is audited twice a year by a senior auditor from BioGrow to make sure we are complying with all the necessary organic farming regulations, she explains. “Furthermore, we bottle the wine with bottles made from 75% recycled glass.”

The Scott’s vineyards are 100 percent committed to sustainability and the family aim to ‘always put back what we take out’.

This year the family produced environmentally friendly bottle bags to encourage shoppers to create less waste when they buy their wine and also introduced a nationwide native tree-planting programme. In 2009 they plan to extend the organic wine range with the inclusion of Pinot Gris, Gewürztraminer and Riesling varietals.

Allan Scott 2008 Millstone Sauvignon Blanc is available from Glengarry, fine wine stores and restaurants throughout New Zealand for RRP $29.90 per bottle.
