RCSA Congratulates New Zealand’s Next Government

RCSA Congratulates New Zealand’s Next Government

Tuesday 11 November 2008 - The RCSA has congratulated John Key and the National Party on winning the New Zealand election, as announced on the weekend.

According to RCSA’s New Zealand Region President Ms Jacqui Barratt MRCSA, the RCSA has already begun building positive relationships with the National Party.

“We had the opportunity to hear National Party front bencher David Carter speak at our RCSA International Conference this year, and it was a great opportunity to hear his party’s views on the issues facing New Zealand at the moment. We have also been in contact with Kate Wilkinson, Paula Bennett, Dr Wayne Mapp and Gerry Brownlee on a series of topics. We look forward to working closely with the new Government, and in particular, the RCSA will call for the removal the Employment Relations Amendment Bill (No. 3) from the Parliamentary Order Paper, as a matter of priority,” Ms Barratt said.

Ms Barratt went on to say that “this proposed legislation is exactly what the country doesn’t need at a time where labour market flexibility will be integral to maintaining business fitness and international competitiveness, under the threat of global downturn”.

The RCSA hopes the National Party approach to policy development will be consultative, and include the views of the recruitment and on-hire sector.

“RCSA Members play a vital role in the employment landscape in New Zealand, so we would hope that the new Prime Minister and his colleagues will seek our views on relevant business and employment issues affecting the nation,” Ms Barratt said.
