Wairaki -1 Drilling Progress

L&M Petroleum Limited is pleased to announce that at 6am on 25th November,  the Wairaki-1 coal seam gas (CSG) exploration well in Western Southland petroleum exploration permit (PEP) 38238 (Blackmount) was at a depth of 179m, coring in the Beaumont Formation.  The top of the Beaumont Formation was intersected at 155m, 15m high to prognosis.

The top 3m of the Beaumontconsisted of coal and a small amount of carbonaceous claystone.  Six canisters of coal core were collected and will be sent for further methane desorption analysis.  Field reports indicated the coal sections of the cores exhibited slow gas bubbles upon recovery.  

The well is programmed to be drilled to a total depth of 600m.

The Wairaki-1 well is the second cored well in the CSG program, and follows on from the successful drilling of the Goodwin-1 well, located in the eastern portion of PEP 38226 (Waiau), adjacent to the proven Ohai coalfield (see map) and two earlier stratigraphic wells drilled in the Wairaki area.

The Company’s initial analysis indicates its onshore WesternSouthlandBasinpermits may hold up to 300 PJ of CSG potential resources.
