Hirepool Presses on with New Strategic Acquisition in Taupo

Auckland, 02 December 2009: New Zealand equipment rental leader, Hirepool Limited, has continued to strengthen its national foothold with the acquisition of Lake Hire Ltd in Taupo.

General Manager Mark Powell says this latest strategic acquisition, effective immediately, will include the re-branding of Lake Hire to become Hirepool Taupo. Earlier this year Hirepool purchased Castles Marquee & Party Hire in Auckland and in September it grew its commercial vehicle division with the purchase of Rhodes Rentals, which has branches in Christchurch and Dunedin.

Established in 1984, Lake Hire recently moved to a new purpose-built location in Crown Rd Taupo, with a large yard and office/workshop area which have ample room for expansion. It was set up by present owner Martin Jones and a staff of four who will all be retained.

Mr Jones is confident Hirepool will be able to grow market share. “Hirepool is a great brand and they have a wide range of modern, bigger-end machinery and allied divisions like Port-a-Loo, commercial vehicle rentals via Henderson Rentals & Castles Marquee Hire, all of which will be able to supply to the growing number of events in and around Taupo which we have not been able to service,” he says.

“The local energy, forestry and construction companies will also welcome Hirepool into the area as it will provide them with the ability to a tap into a national brand.”

Mr Powell says that as well as the commercial opportunities now available for Hirepool in the Central Plateau area, “it is now recognised as the new adventure capital of New Zealand and we will be looking to support that sector with our energy, commercial vehicles, barricading, portable sanitation divisions as well as our general equipment hire business.”
