Manawatu labour market manager appointment

PRESS RELEASE

Manawatu labour market manager appointment

A new job has been created to address issues Manawatu organisations are facing with workforce and skilled labour shortages.

Mrs Hilary Humphrey has been appointed Regional Labour Market Project Leader to drive the initiative. She will operate from Vision Manawatu.

Chief Executive, Andrew Powrie, says the role is crucial in bringing together employers facing challenges, to ensure the labour market works effectively in Manawatu.

“Currently there is no cohesive regional strategy, and elements of work in this area are happening in a disconnected manner,” he said. “Now specific goals in key areas can be formulated and managed through projects – based on comprehensive research.”

Business leaders, local and central government organisation representatives formed a steering committee that has been working with Vision Manawatu over five months. Funding for the position has been secured from the Ministry of Social Development’s Enterprising Communities Programme.

“Hilary Humphrey’s appointment to lead this strategic project was a clear and unanimous choice by the interview panel. Her previous work as Manawatu Defence Hub facilitator has been valuable in her gaining a broad and in-depth understanding of the region-wide concerns through her professional networks”.

This role will be pivotal and crucial for our regions future, Mr Powrie says.
